Naknek summer 2013
Naknek summer 2013These are a collection of pencil sketches from my short time of working at a salmon cannery in Naknek, Alaska.  I was completely out of my element in a harsh, strange land.  I found peace in what I love most, drawing.  Everything in Naknek was grey.  The sky and the never setting sun was grey.  Our bunks were grey.  The water was grey. The fish were grey.  I felt color drain out of me and held onto a pencil for the first time in ages because the graphite seemed to express the mood much more clearly than my pens could.   I am glad I went there.  I don't believe in get-rich-quick schemes anymore.
